Met een concert en de presentatie van de dubbel-cd Blijschap, verpakt in een jubileumboek, viert de Wageningse folkgroep Folkcorn dit jaar haar 50-jarig bestaan.
Op zondagmiddag 20 augustus tussen 15:00 en 17:00 uur geeft de groep een gratis openluchtconcert bij de kasteelmuur in het Torckpark in Wageningen.
Blijschap, de 8e geluidsdrager van de groep, bevat 24 nog niet eerder door Folkcorn vertolkte stukken uit het rijke culturele erfgoed aan oude Nederlandse en Vlaamse volksmuziek. De titel is ontleend aan een van de dansdeunen uit de Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties en Contredansen. Deze onder folkmuzikanten bekende serie werd gepubliceerd tussen 1700 en 1716.
Maar ook de watersnoodramp in Gelderland uit 1820, droevig afscheid bij het varen naar de Oost, onbeantwoorde liefde, overspel, de onmisbaarheid van de wever, kritiek op papen en dokters en niet te vergeten de gaven van de ‘wijndruif’ - uit het leven gegrepen thema’s - worden in liederen op dit album bezongen.

Het concert, met medewerking van Stadsmuseum De Casteelse Poort, vindt plaats in het kader van de Wageningse Cultuurzomer en is mede mogelijk gemaakt door de Stichting Cultuurstad Wageningen e.o. Bij slecht weer wordt uitgeweken naar zaal XL in ‘Thuis’, Stationsstraat 32.

Anniversary concert Folkcorn 1973 – 2023 and presentation of the new double CD Blijschap.

With an open-air concert and the presentation of the double CD Blijschap, wrapped in an anniversary book, the Wageningen folk group Folkcorn celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. On Sunday afternoon 20 August between 15:00 and 17:00, the group will give a free concert at the castle wall in the Torckpark in Wageningen. Blijschap, the 8th album of the group, contains 24 pieces from the rich cultural heritage of old Dutch and Flemish folk music that have never been performed by Folkcorn before. The title is taken from one of the dance tunes from the Oude en Nieuwe Hollantse Boerenlieties and Contredansen. This series, known among folk musicians, was published between 1700 and 1716.

But various themes from life are also sung on this album, such as the flood disaster in Gelderland from 1820, a sad farewell when sailing to the East, unrequited love, adultery, the indispensability of the weaver, criticism of monks and doctors and not to forget the gifts of the 'wine grape'. This concert, with the collaboration of Stadsmuseum De Casteelse Poort, takes place in the context of the Wageningen Cultural Summer and is made possible by the Stichting Cultuurstad Wageningen e.o. In case of bad weather, we will move to room XL in 'Thuis', Stationsstraat 32.
